"Great pictures and Memories, during one particularly loud giggle session I walked in to see what got them going and saw things from the "wrong side" of the table. For fun go back up through the pictures and check out the Hula girl upside down or stand on your heads....  I thought she was a freaked out Moose.....and the "coconuts" were the eyeballs....  so I said "what's with the moose" Ma?.... What moose? was the reply. So I picked her up and turned her upside down and promptly got laughed out of the shop! We see lots of confused meeses around here in the spring..... I went back to my ham samich and my fishin show.... Love, Dad"

Haa! Thanks for more laughs, Dad!! *grin*

Ring-Around-the-Rooster

Raising poultry presents me with endless entertainment. There isn't a day that goes by that I am not amused by someone in the flock. Today's entertainment was priceless!

This afternoon, I went out to check on things at the coop. Everything seemed normal at first, and then I saw something odd at the far side of the yard. At a distance, it looked like Pip Squeak had an injury on his chest. I couldn't imagine what had happened! He is the smallest rooster on the farm (smaller than even little Tiny Tim!), but his short stature doesn't seem to phase him or anyone else in the coop. He remains king of the coop, ranked higher than Wiley, and even ranked higher than Uncle Sam, a full-sized rooster! (Uncle Sam is kind of a sissy, but don't tell him I told you that.)

 
Pip Squeak was walking fine, his usual dandy strut. But something was certainly odd.

 
I had to go inside the chicken yard to get a closer look at Pip Squeak... that's when I saw that he wasn't injured after all.

No. Instead, he had somehow managed to get the dried skin of a pink grapefruit stuck around his neck, like a tube top bikini.

 
Of course, this made me laugh myself silly... so I decided to run to the house to grab the camera (leaving poor Pip Squeak in his attire a bit longer). Pip Squeak was rather indignant when I returned, but as I continued to laugh (and take photos), his attitude changed and he practically begged for assistance.

I can only imagine how the grapefruit skin came to rest around Pip Squeak's neck...

Was he the score peg for a quick game of Ring-Around-the-Rooster, where all the hens gather round taking turns tossing grapefruit rings at Pip Squeak's head?

Or did Uncle Sam finally have enough of Pip Squeak's little-big-man attitude, show some muscle and ring Pip Squeak?

Or did Little Dee find out that Pip Squeak has been sneaking around the coop with Penny, Rosie, Red, Crazy, Curly Que, Tipsy, and not to mention Sunshine!?

I'm sure he'll be back to his usual antics tomorrow... but I bet he avoids that old dried up grapefruit rind!

PS: This situation reminds me of this one.

Eggs, eggs, and MORE eggs!

I was chatting with a friend tonight, and I mentioned how the girls have been laying eggs like CRAZY. Granted, not ALL of the eggs the girls lay are full-sized eggs that I will sell, but still, regardless of their size, we're getting a LOT of eggs!

 
For giggles, I thought I would share a photo with you of my fridge, as it looks right now. There are 20 dozen eggs, packaged and ready to deliver to customers. There's almost another dozen not in a carton yet ... and then there are the two LARGE bowls of small banty eggs (those are the ones we keep) and the eggs too large to fit in a carton. Some of the girls lay MONSTER sized eggs!

Each dozen has a variety of shell colors, and I make sure that every dozen has at least 1 green shelled egg. You can see a couple of the Black Copper Marans girls' eggs on the bottom row ... they're the REALLY dark brown shelled eggs. Even though they are not the largest of the eggs, I like the variety of color they add to the cartons.

Tuesday is my standard delivery day, so on Tuesday I will deliver at least 14 dozen to folks in town.. I think I might need to start doing two days of delivery!

I guess the girls are happy, and healthy!

Tomorrow, I'll gather more eggs... it's like Easter every day here on the farm!

Tiny Tim Learns to Crow

I can't even begin to tell you just how hard I've been laughing, for two days now! Yesterday evening, Tiny Tim started crowing. We've never heard him crow before, and it's likely that he's just now figuring out how.

The nights have been in the low 30s to high 20s, and that's just too cold for Tiny Tim to be out with the others, so we keep him in a small kennel in our utility room at night. I took this little video this morning, while we waited for it to warm up enough for him to go back outside with the rest of his chicken friends.

The little "hiccup" he does at the end of his crow is there every time! It's a stinkin' RIOT!!

Oh, and by the way, to make the entries about Tiny Tim easier to find, I've created a Tiny Tim the Frizzled Roo category - you'll find it over on the right side, in the categories section. Who knew such a crazy little chicken would have such a following! I'll get the other posts about Tiny Tim added to that category as well.

Santa! ...or is it?

Tonight I decided to make Tiny Tim a *new* coat! What do you think of it?! This one is a bit "fancy" for every day wear, I think... *grin*


I tried to get a photo of Tiny Tim in the coat, but it was late, and all he wanted to do was SLEEP! Honestly, Tiny Tim. A sleeping chicken isn't a very good model.

Project Poultry

Tonight the temps are dropping down into the low 30s, and it's supposed to get a bit cooler than that over the weekend. I had to move Tiny Tim's "sweater" up the priority list. When I was in town last weekend, I picked up a yard of brown fleece. Couldn't beat the price at less than $3/yard! Just right for chicken outerwear.

I started by creating a little body form about the same size as Tiny Tim. I used one of the dog toys and a couple of sheets of tissue paper, and it worked like a charm! I was able to wrap the form and create a pattern before I cut into the fleece. Once I had what I thought might work for a pattern, I cut it out and hand stitched it together!

The original version was a bit longer, and the seam you can see was supposed to help the overcoat wrap around his body. But, it was just a bit too long, so I ended up having to shorten it a bit. The front of the coat is fastened with a single button so that the rest of the opening allows his little legs to move.

On the back there's a shoulder flap to cover up his nearly-bare wings. I needed to make some V-shaped slits over his shoulders so his wings could move freely. But to keep them warm, I added a shoulder flap that's even tack-stitched down at the center to help keep it in place if he gets too flap-happy.

Overall, I think it's a good design. (OMW, I am laughing so hard!!) He seems to like it so far. Every now and then he slips into "reverse" and tries to back out of it, but as soon as he bumps into something, he's back in forward motion. (*snort!*)

Let's just hope his chicken friends don't laugh at him! He's got enough problems as it is!

I laugh hysterically when I see these photos! And seeing him in action is even more hysterical! It might be time for a farm video! Eat your heart out, Tim Gunn!

Cows like Paprika?

Every now and then I like to take a look at my blog stats. Tonight, I did just that and got a laugh! One of the things I can see on my stats are specific keywords people use when they come across my blog in their search results. I got a chuckle out of this AOL search someone did that pulls my blog up as #1 in the results: "Cows that like Paprika"

Who knew I had so much "cow" info to share with the world!

One of the features of Typepad's blog hosting service is a small report on the keywords people have used with various search engines that have put my blog in their list of suggested sites.

For example, if you're on the Google search site and you enter "Anna Wight" as your search text, my blog will be one of the sites that Google suggests you visit. If you click on my blog link from the list of suggested sites for your search results, "Anna Wight" will show on my keyword report as a keyword used today to find my blog.

Most of the time, the keywords used to find my blog are things like Anna Wight, SweetMissDaisy, Whipper Snapper, chicken, etc.

I laughed and LAUGHED when I saw today's recent keyword searches...

Just for FUN...

Earlier this week I was working on some penguin note cards (seen here). Alan had all kinds of suggestions for design ideas when he looked at my cards. Today he surprised me with a drawing he did in his engineering illustration program (AutoCAD). This drawing is one of the design ideas he had after seeing my note cards. I thought I'd share it here with you, since it's pretty stinkin' funny!

Alan drew the penguin by looking at the penguin in the My Favorite Things stamp set called Winter Blast, which I'd used on my cards. But the snowman and the concept is all his. Once I saw his drawing, I just had to see it in color! I pulled his illustration file into Photoshop, filled in the colors, and added the greeting. Hahaa!! This just cracks me UP!

*Snicker* ... Can you imagine!?
