Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday task was to create a card that was any other shape than a rectangle. I chose to make a square card, and whoops! What do you know... here's yet another sneak peek at an image AND sentiment from the next unmounted set being released by Whipper Snapper next Friday, March 14th!

Can you guess the theme of the next set yet!?  

I'm SUPER excited about the release, if you can't tell!

I stamped the image on shimmery white paper and colored it with a variety of markers before I watercolored lightly around the image with a water brush and reinkers. I used a glue pen to add Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the duck.

The green paper is part of an Amuse note card, a Christmas gift from my friend Vivian. Thanks Vivian!! I scalloped the bottom edge with a Martha Stewart punch that I purchased at Michael's a month or two ago. This card was easy peasy! Just a cute little 3.5x3.5 note card that would be perfect on top of a nicely wrapped gift. Good thing I know people expecting babies soon!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday was to create a card using the layout on page 44 of the Stampin' Up catalog. It's a fun layout to use, so try your hand at it too!

I chose to use stamps by Rosie's Roadshow to create this little springy scene.

The four stamps I used to create the scene are Leif, Flower, Long Grass, and Sabine the bird.

The images are stamped in black Stazon and colored with Copic markers. The background around the scene was then watercolored with a light wash of color.

Exciting news about Rosie's Roadshow! Rosie has opened an online store! If you've had trouble finding the stamps at your local shops, you can now order them online directly from miss Rosie! Yay, Rosie!! LOVE the new shop!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

The challenge for this week's Blogger's Challenge Friday group was to use the layout of the birthday card that's on the cover of the Stampin' Up Sale-A-Bration catalog. It's a very cute layout! I really enjoyed making this card.

Rather than making a standard A2 sized card, I chose to make a slightly smaller card - this one is 3.5 x 5 inches.

This image of the bunny in the bathtub is a Whipper Snapper stamp by illustrator Shelly Comiskey. This is another stamp that arrived at my house this week. I love getting new stamps!!

I stamped the image in Black Stazon and painted it with a water brush and Stampin' Up reinkers. I used Spellbinder dies to cute the rectangle shape and the scalloped rectangle. Have I mentioned how much I like the Spellbinder dies?! Lots and LOTS! I still have (and use) my hand-held Marvy scalloped punches, too. They come in handy as well!

I think this layout would make really cute baby cards. Maybe that's why I used such soft colors!?

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

The Blogger's Challenge Friday theme for the week was to use the layout from a card in the Stampin' Up catalog on page 141.

My card is a rather "loose" representation of the layout, but I'm happy with it. I chose to squish the layout into a standard card size.

I used the chubby daisy and butterfly from Posies for You, and colored the images with Copic markers. I added some faux stitches around all layers (hard to see on the white in the photo).

I'm so glad it's Friday...

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Color

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme is a color challenge. We were to use Blue Bayou, Real Red, and River Rock.

I played with various layouts using colored cardstock and decided I wasn't diggin' the color combination in paper. I decided to use the colors of ink instead.

Oddly enough, it snowed here this morning (not enough to stick), so I thought it might be appropriate to use Pudgy!

I stamped Pudgy on a white Fabriano note card (thank you, Vivian!) with black Stazon ink. I used a water brush to paint Pudgy with Stampin' Up reinkers in the three colors for this challenge: Blue Bayou, Real Red, and River Rock. Because I do so love things that sparkle and shine, I brushed a bit of white Pearl-Ex over the entire card. It's just enough to give it a nice "chilly" feeling without using glitter.

While I think the other Blogger's Challenge projects look great this week (most of them used paper combinations),this is what worked for me. Easy Peasy!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

Some things are better not shared. But then, where's the learning!? This card is one of those things!

Blogger's Challenge Friday this week was a layout challenge. We were to use the card on page 37 of the new Stampin' Up catalog as our layout design. The card in the catalog is a really nice card, with clean stamping and crisp colors and edges.

My card: a mess! Stripes and dots and wacky flowers - oh my! Not to mention a slightly skewed layer! See how the stripes below the brown cardstock layer aren't even with the brown cardstock!? *ugh!*

But, here I am, sharing it with you anyway. Giggle away! I sure am!

On a side note, I also created (and posted) another card using this layout earlier this week. See my "A Perfect Summer Day" card from Wednesday using the Thomas Kinkade image with the cottage and horses. I think that makes up for this goofy attempt at something "cute".

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Color

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme is a color challenge using pink and brown. This is a color combo that I happen to love, even though I go back and forth on whether or not I actually LIKE the color pink. Today, I think I like it.

I used a couple of images from the new set from Hanna Stamps called Celebrations to make this little 4x4 valentine. I think I might just wear these lips OUT! They're just the right size, and oh so cute! You can see them on the pink layer, but they're really tough to see where I stamped them on the cocoa brown layer. I colored the champagne glasses with Copic markers. I like the blend of the pinks from light to dark - it looks fruity and sweet! The xoxo is stamped with Karen Foster Snap Stamps which were VERY popular early last year. It's a shame they stopped making them. They're GREAT!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Motion Cards

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday them is MOTION! We were to make a card that moves, or shakes, or slides, etc. I don't make motion cards very often, so this was a good challenge for me.

It also worked out well because I needed to make something to sort of "package" a gift card, and this card has plenty of room on the back of the main image to easily adhere a gift card.

I spied this sliding pop-up card template on my friend Diane's blog (CookieStamper). She did an adorable version of the card using a frog theme - VERY cute! She has excellent directions, so please refer to her blog for details on putting this kind of card together. She even altered the template a bit so the card fits in a standard A2 envelope! THANKS, Diane!

This was my first attempt at making this kind of card, and it was quite easy! I think the biggest challenge was getting the red backing off of the sticky tape I used to adhere the ends of the "box" together.

The main image on this card as well as the little yellow bows is Hanna, from Hanna Stamps. I used a new pencil eraser to make the polka dots. The lightly stamped flower pattern on the front of the slider is a new background image from Cornish Heritage Farms. The Holiday Sparkle sentiment is by A Muse.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Sympathy

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme was Sympathy. While sympathy cards aren't always "fun" to make, they are certainly appreciated by those who receive them. I chose to do a pet themed card and unfortunately, this was a fitting card for us here on the farm this week. Last Friday night, one of our wild farm kitties was hit by a car. She was a solitary little long haired yellow miss named Curly Two. She spent most of her time in or around the pastures, or around the big hay bales. She didn't usually come near the house or the road, so Alan fed her daily out at the hay. I made this card in honor of miss Curly Two.

The kitty stamp is by Claudia Rose and is watercolored, and then over-painted with Twinkling H2Os. She really shimmers. The paper is a Fabriano note card and envelope (from DickBlick), which I also stamped with a flower from the main image. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Watercolor

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday challenge is watercoloring. This is a technique I do on almost all of my projects, so for this challenge I thought I'd try something a little different than my usual watercolor process.

My friend Crissy is an artist for High Hopes Rubber Stamps. She's an outstanding illustrator, and she's also amazing when it comes to giving her illustrations life through color.

I recently asked her about the technique she uses to watercolor her images using water-based markers. I encourage you to visit her gallery on SplitCoastStampers to really see just how wonderful the results of this technique can be.

I stamped the snowman and sentiment images in Timber Brown Stazon ink on cream cardstock. I watercolored the snowman with Crissy's technique using water-based markers. I used markers by Stampin' Up and Tombow.

Once the image was dry, I added a bit of additional color and shimmer to the image by watercoloring some areas with Twinkling H2O's. If you're not familiar with Twinkling H2O's, they are a hard caked pigment color infused with itty bitty shimmery particles. Ooooh sparkles... In the close-up of the snowman you can see the watercolor detail, and the sparkles. (Click the image for a larger view.)

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Inspired By

Today we are driving a couple of hours southeast of here to pick up a couple of cows that Alan bought a few weeks ago.

One is just a baby, recently weened from her mama. She's red and will make a perfect "companion" for our little bull, Ribeye.

The other cow we're picking up is a little brown cow who's already got a bun in her oven. (Do you think that saying applies to cows, too?) We're excited to have them join our barnyard family. Stay tuned for photos!

Now for crafty chatter! Today's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme is Inspired By. We're supposed to choose something like a rug, sweater, color pattern, etc. to inspire our project.

I have been drooling over the holiday Pottery Barn catalog, and the color combination of cranberry, white and olive green really jump out at me as being very fresh and seasonal. So I chose the colors in this Pottery Barn photo as my inspiration for this card. It was pretty easy to find paper to use. My 6x6 tablet of Figgy Pudding paper by Basic Grey has been on the top of my paper stack all week! It's filled with rich reds and greens and browns, just perfect for this week's inspiration project!

The snowman stamp on this card is one of my own Whipper Snapper images, Pudgy. He's stamped on shimmery white paper and colored with Copic markers.

Thursday's challenge at SplitCoast was to use stitching on our card, so I incorporated that challenge into this project. In fact, I think I went a little wild with the sewing machine. Every layer has at least two rows of stitching, in either straight stitch, zig zag, or a combination of the two. Even the sentiment tag (stamp by A Muse) got stitched! What could be better than a pudgy snowman for holiday greetings!

Hope your Thanksgiving was grand! We got fat on yummy turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and other holiday fixings. Yum!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Color

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme is a color challenge. The colors: Brocade Blue, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, and Pumpkin Pie. Mmmm, pie...

Earlier this week I received a fun gift from Karrie Baker. She sent me this cowgirl stamp by Terry Medaris Art Stamps that she picked up at a stamp show in Arizona. THANKS Karrie!

This image -- what a riot! I took a look at Terry's website and I will say that this is one fella that seems to dig bodacious girls! Way to go, Terry!

One thing to note about my card ... I don't think this is actually Brocade Blue. I think it's Buckaroo Blue. Oh well. And I skimped out on the Pumpkin Pie color and only used it in hair and on a few rocks. But I thought about Pumpkin Pie the entire time I made this card. Does that count?

The bright spots on the card are areas I added glitter to for bling. Every bodacious cowgirl should wear a little bling!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Magazine/Photo

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme required us to use either a photo or something from a magazine in our design. I opted for the magazine option, and chose an ad from my Martha Stewart Living magazine.

The ad is for the new Martha Stewart line of kitchen wares at Macy's. I spent more time looking at all of the gadgets and goodies on the ad page than actually making this card! I think the ad makes a fun background image for this Crafty Secrets Party Queen on her birthday! The card is kind of retro looking, with colors in turquoise, green and orange. I dig it the most.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Embellishments

I made this fairly quick one layer card for this week's Blogger's Challenge. The theme was Embellishments and we were to use brads or eyelets or buttons (etc) on our cards. I chose to use some fun patterned brads by Queen&Co for the centers of my flowers. I created this blossom card using inspiration from a card posted by a fellow stamper on SplitCoastStampers named Debbie Ware. Thanks Debbie!

I also made another one layer card (but not for Blogger's Challenge) to feature this image of a woman walking her dog on the beach. The image is from a new set by My Favorite Things called By the Seashore. Notice the dog looks a lot like my Miss Daisy! I really enjoy creating cards without layers. I like the clean, simple approach to cards like this.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Designer Paper

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme was Designer Paper. We were to make designer paper a main focus on our project. I use designer paper a LOT, a LOT, a LOT... but still found this challenge to be fun!

I chose this holiday paper by Scenic Route for my project and chose to combine it with this cute snowman image by Whipper Snapper (artist Shelly Comisky). I wanted the squares of the paper to be repeated in my image, and found that the squares on the snowman's hat and scarf were a similar repeating pattern. The card and all the layers on the card are also square, repeating the design element.

The image is stamped on white cardstock and colored with markers. I used a scalloped square Spellbinders die for the green layer and adhered it to the card base with 3D foam adhesive squares. Snowmen make me happy...

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Inspired By

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday theme is Inspired By. The idea is to find inspiration from something, or someone, and use that inspiration as a starting point for your own project. This is one of my favorite challenge themes because there is just so MUCH that can be used for inspiration!

Earlier this week I received the latest Pottery Barn catalog. On the cover is a delightful pillow and a couple holiday items wrapped up for the season. The pillow is covered with a fun house and leaf print fabric, done in cream, leafy greens and cranberry colors. I really love the overall design of the printed fabric, and thought I'd create my own little holiday scene using their fabric as my inspiration.

I sketched a little snowy house scene on white cardstock and painted it with Ranger reinkers. I think I've found a new favorite watercolor color! Ranger's LETTUCE is the color of green I used on the house and MY O MY, is it a GREAT color! It's fresh and chic!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Ornament + Blog Candy!

I'm a few days late for this post, but I wanted to get this posted before I got even MORE behind! (I'm busy working through my project list after being gone for a week!)

Last Friday's Blogger's Challenge theme was Ornament. A fun theme, and I didn't want to miss out! For my project I created this chipboard holiday ornament. It's kind of retro looking with the colors being red and turquoise. I have a die cut of the ornament shape that works GREAT for cutting out chipboard shapes and I used some of my other die cuts for the flower shapes to give the ornament some design and dimension.

I've had my Big Shot for almost a year, but because it's something I have to get out to use (it's not just out all of the time) I don't find myself reaching for it very often. I'm always thrilled with the results of my projects when I do use it, so I'm going to TRY and use it more often.

I've found that I really like the process of die cutting when I have patterned paper adhered to the chipboard before it's die cut. I like how the cutting process presses the patterned paper onto the chipboard, making it look like it's actually part of the chipboard. It slightly rounds the edges, and I like that finished look.

For this project, I adhered red designer paper to my chipboard, placed the covered chipboard into the machine with the die and cut out the red ornament shape. Then I adhered some blue designer paper to a scrap piece of chipboard, and cutout just the top portion of the ornament so I could layer the two together on my finished project. I did the same technique for the flower shapes -- adhering the paper to the chipboard before the cuts where made. Once I had all of my shapes cut, I inked the edges with coordinating inks and glued them to the ornament. I applied a layer of Glossy Accents to the large red area to make the ornament shine like glass. The blue topper and flowers are covered with a layer of Crackle Accents which makes the ornament look like cracked aged glass. While the clear layers were still wet, I sprinkled on some ultra fine glitter for lots of sparkle!

This would be a fun project to turn into a greeting card gift. The ornament could be added to the front of a card and then removed and hung on a tree. Or, it would make a great gift tag too!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Orange & Black

Yes, yes I know it's not Friday any longer... BUT, I've been busy with all kinds of fun things! And actually, I did get this card at least started yesterday, but didn't get to finish it until earlier today.

This week's Blogger's Challenge was to use Orange & Black. I chose a couple of my Rosie's Roadshow stamps and created this festive scene. Instead of "happy halloween", I think this card should say "Tip Toe Through the Pumpkins". Ah well... next time.

The paper I used on the background of this card is from a Junkitz line from last fall. I liked this paper so much that this is the only small piece I had left! I stamped the pumpkins and duck on white cardstock and painted them with a waterbrush and re-inkers. The sentiment is by Memory Box. I stamped it on white cardstock and punched it out with one of my Uchida Scalloped Rectangles. I slid it WAY up under the image, to hide most of the punch shape.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Spectrum Ink Pads

Today's Blogger's Challenge was to use Spectrum-style ink pads on our project. The one I reached for is an old Ranger rainbow pigment ink pad I bought years ago. The colors are SO bright, I rarely use it. But, it's still nice and juicy and worked great for this project.

I used a couple of Memory Box stamps, and a sentiment by A Muse, to create this card. As you might have guessed, I stamped the sun-like image in inks from the rainbow pad. I only used the bright pink and bright yellow colors when I inked the stamp. The other colors on the pad are a BRIGHT blue and BRIGHT green - not really what I was goin' for on this card.

The penguin is stamped on watercolor paper, colored with markers, cut out, and adhered to the card with dimensionals. This card came together really quickly once I convinced myself to use the rainbow ink pad. *blech*

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Embossing

This week's Blogger's Challenge Friday called for embossing. It could have been any style of embossing... I chose dry embossing.

I used my Stampin' Up Classy Brass template called Priceless to emboss the scalloped borders on the top and bottom of the stamped layer. I like how the scallops kind of mirror the round bodies of the sheep, and give them a bouncy look below.

This card is to thank some friends of mine in Oregon who raise sheep and sell their fleeces for blankets and spinning yarn. They're wonderful friends, and have wonderful sheep! Recently they sent me some raw wool to use for my primitive dolls and textile projects. Oh my goodness, I couldn't be more grateful for the gift they've given me. My project list grew and GREW the day I opened the big box of wool they sent!! You can meet some of their critters at Red Dog Ranch. Be sure to check out the OUR SHEEP page for photos of their adorable lambs in red sweaters! They wear the sweaters to keep their wool clean...I think they're just so cute!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Inspiration

This week's Blogger's Challenge was to use something for inspiration when we created our card. Clothing, dishes, colors, whatever... I chose a cute pair of cowgirl boots that I saw on the Sundance site for my inspiration.

I like the delicate floral patterned top portion of the boot matched with the  richly colored brown flourishes on the heel and toes. So cute! Of course, is there anything at Sundance that isn't fabulous?!

To create my inspired card, I used designer paper from the Signature Life series by My Mind's Eye. The Signature Life paper line is fantastic!! I used a die cut to create the chipboard flourish on my card, and used a hole punch and Crop-a-dile to create a few holes in the chipboard for interest.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

This week's Bloggers's Challenge was to use the layout on page 12 of the Stampin' Up Holiday Mini catalog. This is my card for the challenge.

I used the new Basic Grey 6x6 paper pad called Mellow. The chipboard star is by Stampin' Up. The star was really easy to cover with the designer paper! Once I had the paper glued on and trimmed, I sanded the edges the to make it all smooth.

I had a GREAT time making this card, and need to remember to use this layout again. It's great!!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Layout

This week's Blogger's Challenge was to use the card layout on page 92 in the 2007 Fall/Winter catalog in our design. I took a few creative liberties when I created the card -- but it's close.

I used a new set by Crafty Secrets called A Sexy Little Number (arriving in my shop SOON SOON SOON!!). The font used in this set is fantastic! I already have so many ideas for the set, but this is my first card using it. I'm still amazed at the detail the clear Crafty Secrets stamp have! They're so fun to use!

The paper I used is also by Crafty Secrets, from the Earthy 6x12 tablet. I aged all the paper with various Ranger Distress inks.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Punchy!

Fashionably late, Bella style!

Shame on me... this is for last week's Blogger's Challenge, so it's a wee-itty-bitty-late. But at least I got it posted before I posted THIS Friday's challenge! (See next post...) *wink*

The challenge was to use punches as a primary design element. I used several circle punches to create the background of this bubbly Bella card.

A couple of weeks ago I won Blog Candy from Kerry Davis! I typically never win anything so I was completely SHOCKED when I did win! Kerry is a Bella junkie, and her Blog Candy was for several stamped Bella images. Since I don't own any Bella stamps myself, I thought it would be a good drawing for me to enter. Yahooo! Winning is so FUN!

The day before I received my Bella stamps from Kerry, I received a card in the mail from a stamper friend named Linda. (Hi Linda!!) Much to my surprise, she stamped a handful of Bella images for me too! It was a Bella-crazy week for me, and I'm just getting to using my first image! They're like gold, you know! When you only have stamped images, and not the actual stamp they have to be used at JUST the right time so they don't get used up too quickly. (Hoarders understand what I mean...)

This image was watercolored with a water brush and ink from my Stampin' Up re-inkers. I added glitz and glam to this Bella by sparkling up her necklace, dress neckline and hem, shoes, and of course the wine bottle and glasses. The sentiment is a new Memory Box stamp... it seemed appropriate for this card.

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Inspiration

I'm a bit late posting last week's Bloggers Challenge since I was out of town, but better late than never! The challenge for the week was to use something for inspiration, like a magazine ad, furniture, clothing, painting, etc.

I have a charm pack of 5" squares by Moda called Fall Back in Time. It's a series of prints done in fresh shades of autumn.

I made this card using Rosie's Roadshow stamps with inspiration from the colors in the fabric. First I stamped Lena the duck and masked her with a post-it note. Then I stamped the pumpkins slightly over-top of Lena to make it look like she's sitting on the pumpkin. I think she's pretty darn cute propped there! I painted the image with watercolors.

I found this little sample image of the fabric series online at FatQuarter.com. They seem to carry most, if not all, of this line. Ooooh, ahhh!! Now I just have to decide what I want to do with all of the fabric squares!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Altered Journal

This week's Blogger's Challenge was to alter something ... alter anything! I chose this 4x5 spiral journal.

I used one of the Thomas Kinkade images by Cornish Heritage Farms. I stamped the image on vanilla cardstock and colored it with Prismacolor pencils. Then I added several layers of Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel, cracked it, and added some vintage ink to age the piece.

I used paper from a pad called Old World by DCWV. The paper has great texture, kind of like an artists' canvas.

This is what the blank journal looked like before I started. I like the transformation!

Blogger's Challenge Friday: Friendship Flowers

I've started participating in a weekly challenge group called Blogger's Challenge. Each week a challenge is issued, and we're to create something that fits the challenge and share our work on our blogs. This week the challenge was to create a card using the same layout as the card on page 165 of the Stampin' Up catalog.

This card is for the Friday August 3rd challenge. I just joined the group yesterday and I needed a bit of time to get the project done! =)
