Alan and I want to say THANK YOU for all the emails and calls to see if we're OK, due to the chemical plant fire that took place today in central Texas. It was nice to hear from you all!
The fire was in Waxahachie, Texas; about 25 miles north of our farm. I was just heading out to the post office that's in our little town when I saw the huge, black plume of smoke off in the distance.
I told Alan that something was on fire up north ... a BIG something! Sure enough ... and it was serious! In my rush to get to the post office and back, I didn't even think to grab a photo of my own! So, I'm sharing these from the wfaa.com website.
The smoke blew west from Waxahachie in a massive black cloud. We live due south of the city, so we were not effected by the event, and we didn't notice any smell or smoke throughout the day. I can't even imagine the smell at the scene, the heat, and pure speed of this fire. I hope the responders were extra careful with safety regarding the air quality at the scene. What a day for the responders! One they won't soon forget, I'm sure!
Here are some photo galleries of the event that have some pretty impressive photos...

The fire department from Ennis, Texas responded, and unfortunately lost their truck in the fire.
Thankfully, no lives were lost. That's a miracle, I think. A blessing.
Wow... what a mess.

THANK GOODNESS YOU ALL WERE NOT AFFECTED. THAT SMOKE AND STUFF HAD TO BE AWFUL FOR THOSE IN ITS PATH. UGH. I SAW THE FIRE TRUCK BURNING ON THE NEWS LAST NIGHT, AND THOUGHT HOW TERRIBLE THAT WAS. POOR MEN/WOMEN, WHAT AN EVENT. HORRIBLE EVENT. SO HAPPY YOU ARE OK.

I love your photo's, but in this case I was glad you didn't grab your camera and make us see the smoke cloud even off in the distance. These pictures are really scary looking. All I could think to do was to say a prayer! So glad you, Alan and the farm animals are safe!

Those photos are truly horrifying. Do they know what started the fire? Like you said, I think it's a miracle that no lives were lost and only two people were injured.

OMG that is frightening. Hard to believe only 2 workers where injured. My Son is on the towns volunteer fire dept. and is often a 1st responder. Fires like this scare the bejeepers out of me. Glad the smoke blew away from Milford. What a horrible loss. The plant, the fire truck, the jobs! Hugs...

Oh, I'm so glad you are ok. We were gone all day yesterday and didn't see this until late.
