Welcome to Wednesday! Today's blog candy package includes a Happy Haunting set from Whipper Snapper, and I thought I would share a card I made using the set. The owl is stamped on a light kraft colored paper and colored with markers. I used a circle punched out of scrap paper as a mask and inked around the circle mask to create the moon. When I removed the circle mask, I was left with a beautiful glowing moon! A few spots on the image are accented with a white gel pen to add a bit of moonlight glow to the owl.
Birthday Celebration: Day 4
Continuing with this week's birthday celebration, here's another set of blog candy goodies! Fun for me, fun for you! Today's packet includes 36 sheets of 6x6 paper (Melissa Frances and Provo), a Happy Haunting cling set (Whipper Snapper), a pumpkin themed clear set (Stampendous), a journaling block clear stamp (Fancy Pants), a "Believe" cling mount (Dee Gruenig, Posh Impressions), and a paper distresser (Making Memories).
If you would like to be entered into the drawing for this set of goodies, please leave a comment on this post. I'd like to know, what's your favorite crafting tool?
I'll be choosing one name from the comments on Thursday, October 7th at 9:00AM! Central -- be sure you leave your name!
Birthday Celebration: Day 3
One name has been selected from yesterday's blog candy drawing -- you have great organizational ideas, and I enjoyed reading them all! As one commenter mentioned, I too would love to see photos! If you haven't read through the comments, do! Great ideas to be found there! You will find some photos of my space on the posts in the "studio" category here on my blog. Like many of you, I LOVE drawers, open shelves, and jars!
The winner of the Birthday Celebration: Day 3 package of goodies is Rebecca Ednie!!
Rebecca says:
"I've learned the hard way that standardizing the boxes I use makes the best use of my space. I use photo boxes from Michaels and CD boxes from IKEA for most of my storage. Everything from 6x6 paper to bling to Stamps in CD cases all fit in one or the other and they are very reasonably priced. I also keep my boxes neutral; black, chocolate, kraft or white, so my decorative items really shine. My shelving is restaurant kitchen style metal shelving which makes stuff really easy to find. If anything falls behind something else, I can peek under the shelves and see through the wire to see where it went. I store my ribbon in glass jars wrapped with twist ties. It holds the ribbon securely without creasing it and doesn't take up any room like wooden clothes pins."
Get in touch with me Rebecca, and I'll get your goodies out to you right away!
Now, go read all of the ideas shared! Great stuff!

Awwww, my favorite little owl! He's adorable all dolled up with his vest and hat sitting in front of the big full moon. Sooo cute! Awesome coloring!

Mt Hoot is a HOOOOT :) he is sooo cute. My favorite tool(s) have to be my nice sharp fiskar embroidery size scissors for cutting around stamped images and my embossing stylus because it has the smaller ball end as well as a larger for moving little pieces to their resting places. The only other favorite is my fingers! I am a hands on person for sure!! ..lol

After seeing all of your wonderful cards, I bought a tracing wheel and love it. I can't justify sewing on my cards when I don't make time to sew clothes, so the faux stitching is great!

Hi Anna,
I am still chuckling about my comment yesterday - totally NOT reading the whole blog entry that day and just jumping ahead to answer the daily question. Thanks again for letting me know that I won! LOL BTW, my fave tool(s) right now are my dies(Nesties, etc.) along with my Wizard. :D
Posted by: Janet Sisk | October 06, 2010 at 07:50 PM
Love your card - soooo cute. I think my favourite tool is my paper piercer - probably sounds silly, but I can use it for so many things, not just poking holes. I spread Stickles and Crystal Effects around with it, can add a wee bit of glue where it needs to go, pick up a piece of fuzz from an inkpad ... it has so many uses!!!! It's probably my cheapest tool too. LOL.
Posted by: Debby Watkins | October 06, 2010 at 07:23 PM
EEK, I love when you get your crafty on!! That owl card is amazing!
I have to say my favorite tool is the sponge dauber, hee! Pair one with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, and I can almost fake coloring! I love the ones that you buy that have the little plastic handles...big, small, medium, I don't care, those things are great!
Posted by: Kelly Schirmer | October 06, 2010 at 07:22 PM
Oh man, this is the cutest Halloween set ever! I LOVE mummy chicken!!
My fav crafting tool is my pattern tracer! It makes the best faux stitch edges! That baby stays right on my work table.

Paper Piercer paired with a White Uni-ball Pen. I love my holes!
Hey, I found a new pattern for another cute wallet, today. I'm about half way through. I'll have to send you a review when I'm done!

Only one more night!! Happy Birthday Eve!
Adorable card! I love this set of yours. I think my favorite tool is my cuddlebug - I use it all the time to die cut and emboss. At least right now. That could change in the near future though. I tend to go in spurts and use one thing all the time for a while and then something else grabs my attention.
Posted by: Anette Eakins | October 06, 2010 at 06:07 PM
My favorite tool is my corner chomper! I love that thing, it adds a nice touch to my cards when I want to add a little something special

That card is so cute!!!! I would love the set...I am especially in love with the mummy chicken..lol
My favorite tool is my tweezers....I use them to pick up all kinds of bitty doo-dads and bling! I also use them to position the images on the card before I stick them down for good to make sure everything is straight! I was going to say my favorite tool was my reading glasses...lol....but I thought that might be showing my age!

Listing my favorite tool is super easy! It is my piercing tool! I call it my third hand, because i use it for everything. When i can't find it in my messy mess, I freak! My fingers don't always want to work, and that sharp little point is such a help!
Posted by: Mary Anne K. | October 06, 2010 at 04:40 PM
Hi Anna,
I'm in awe of the cards you create...I tend to more of a scrapper than a card maker, so everycard I see is truely amazing. My favorite tool... um well for crafting it's my Pazzles, i can customize my pages in a snap... and if I can say my 2nd fav tool is my camera. I love to take pics of my grandbabies.

Hi Anna! That owl is super cute!! Being able to list just one of my favorite crafting tools is a toughie as I seem to be a collector of tools. I guess I would have to say my go-to tool is Perfect Layers. I purchased it years ago and it is one I use time and time again. Thanks for offering this sweet giveaway!! dee marie
Posted by: dee marie | October 06, 2010 at 04:34 PM
I'm a tool freak and it's hard to pick just one ... but I use my ATG tape gun on every project, so that's my pick for fav! I picked mine up a few years ago and paid only $35 for the tape gun (now avail at Mike's where you can use a coupon - even better!). After the initial payout, the savings are great - I only pay $1 per tape refill. Amazing deal since they're 36 yds in length!
Thanx for the inspiration and t'riffic blog candy opp!

Love the owl!!! Just too darn cute!! Favorite tool...tough question! This is going to be strange but I love the aqua painter. I find it extremely relaxing to water color images. Yep, that's my favorite!!

My favorite crafting tool is my cuttlebug. Couldn't live without it. Thanks for the giveaway and Happy Birthday.

Like most of us crafters, so many of my tools are important. I have to say that my Copic markers are really incredible. I discovered them at a time when I was getting a little bored with crafting. They re-energized me! I always liked coloring when I was a kid, but now I like it as an adult, too!
Posted by: Cindy J. | October 06, 2010 at 02:38 PM
I am a huge fan of owl stamps, I love, love this card. I would be happy to win the card!!! My favorite tool is my Cuttlebug. I use it for almost every card I make.
Posted by: karen q | October 06, 2010 at 02:36 PM
This is such a hard question! But if I had to choose, I would say my paper cutter. I hate crooked layers, and having my paper cutter makes it so easy to make everything straight and even...
Posted by: Carmen | October 06, 2010 at 02:34 PM
Outside of my paper cutter my most used tool may be my paper piercer. I don't do a lot of piercing but use it to help line up mats, pick up and place bling on cards as well as small drops of glue and it is always on my desk!
That owl card is a hoot-very cute!!

What a great card!!!! Your images are so much fun and the coloring & detailing that you've added just bring it all together. Another inspiring creation Anna!
My favorite tool? Gosh, it seems to change from week to week. I love using my Cuttlebug with either embossing folders or Nestabilities fo give my cards a "professional" look. My Scorepal gives me crisp folds and neat backgrounds. I'm crazy about the Martha Stewart border and edge punches. And for the very basics, my Cutterbee scissors and a good sharp paper trimmer are essential. Did you really ask for just one? ......

HAPPY ALMOST bIRTHDAY!!!
Chose one? My 'Bug. Chose two? My Scor pal and ATG! (oops that was 3!)...

Oh Anna, your HOOOOOTY Owl is SOOOO cute! :D I love the moon, and the limb, and the sentiment! It's just a GREAT card! :D
Oh, I love my tools...SO MANY to choose from!
Since I love embossing folders, the tool would have to be my Big Shot. I love the Cuttlebug too, and I LOVE my Stampin' Up guillotine paper cutter. NEVER a ragged edge, and perfect cuts! It's so much better than the sliding blade ones.
Thanks for another chance to win your celebration candy! I hope you have the BEST birthday tomorrow, EVER! (Your card is going to be late; I didn't get it mailed in time) :(( Sorry!!!

Love, Love, Love Mr. Hoot Owl and his hat! Just adorable. That big moon behind him. Makes me think of the woods and the scary noises you hear at night, great for Halloween.
My favorite tool is my Cutterbee Scissors. I would be lost without them. Next would be my Fiskar paper cutter.

I couldn't craft without watercolor paper since that is my favorite "coloring" technique. Happy Birthday!
Posted by: Colleen | October 06, 2010 at 12:58 PM
I confess...I am a marker JUNKIE!! I love markers, crayons, colored pencils. I am a child at heart. I love to color.
Posted by: Amy D | October 06, 2010 at 12:49 PM
Another fantastic and fun design, Anna. I love the effect that masking off a moon gives to an image, and I love the trademark cuteness of your fat branch and leaves. I guess my favorite tool would be my blending stumps and gamsol. Prismacolors and gamsol have become the color medium I reach for most often and that I keep closest at hand, but we all use soooooo many tools since this trade is so diverse. I am a short attention spanned gal so I tend to try and move on after each card. I love my spellbinders and my embossing folders but am glad to reach for my heat gun and powders from time to time and I also ADORE Tombow Mono Multi glue because it allows me a bit of time to reposition my design if it is off (and I am a little anal about that). It also dries flexible and strong so no stiff or crunchy cards. Your day is getting closer. I hope it is awesome for you.
Posted by: Michele Ghent | October 06, 2010 at 12:41 PM
Mr. Hoot Owl is a hoot!!!! What a cute card.
I love my Cricut!!! Well, mine and my mom's! It was much cheaper when the cost was shared. Now we are getting into trouble with the cartridges. Opps!!!!
I hope your birthday week is going great!!!!

My favorite tool?? Gosh - I LOVE them all so much! I guess I'll have to say the new little Scor-Pal - my cards fold perfectly now (and they never did before!). I also love my Nesties, Scor-Tape, and the new Corner Chomper (never thought I needed another corner rounder but this one is amazing).
Hugs!

I adore owls. This would be a really fun set to own. My favorite tool would be a toss up between my Cuttlebug and my Scor-Pal and Scor-Buddy. I just got the buddy and it's great! Now I'm off to read all the organization tips. Once can never have too many ideas for that.

My favorite tool is my BigShot, by far! I often tell people that I'd marry it if it would have me. :) I love that it cuts all sorts of dies. It can be used to make embellishments, cards, boxes... and with a myriad of materials. For versatility, it can't be beat.
Once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Thanks so much for the chance to win! :)

Fun card! I really like the fall colors. I'm ready for the leaves to change.
Fave tool? hmmm, I guess that would be my ScorPal. It helps me make 3D items, add decorative lines, and makes my folds nice and crisp.

hmmm . . . it's tie between my Cuttlebug and my Fiskers paper cutter . . . hard question!!
I really admire the way you colour in your stamps!! I've been practising this skill and often refer to your work for inspiration.

Great Halloween card - I love that Whipper Snapper set! I'd have to say that I use my Nestabilities more consistently than probably any other craft tool I have. A close second would be my Copic markers and Prisma pencils - I love to color :-)

This card is amazing and so inspiring. Love the colors and that adorable owl. I love so many tools, but I would say that my Sizzix or Big Shot. Cuz I can use them to emboss and cut. Thanks for a chance at this awesome birthday celebration giveaway. Happy Birthday!

I LOVE heat embossing, so I'll go with my heat gun! My Big Shot is in a close second!
Thanks for the chance to win!

My favorite craft item(s) are adhesives. I love all adhesives, but I am particularly fond of brads! They are so versatile. If you have a brad and you don't like the color, you can change it by heating it with your heating tool (use tweezers!) and then dipping it in embossing powder.
