Before last night, I had never installed a zipper before. At least not that I can remember. I figured it was about time I learned how! So I made a couple little zippy pouches, the perfect size for handbag odds and ends. What fun! I'll be making more of these, for sure!
For my first pouch, I chose to use a cute cotton kitty fabric and some nice linen. The linen was nice to work with, but you need to be careful not to let it stretch out of shape too much. I picked the kitty fabric up sometime last year, probably at Joann's. I thought it was cute then, and I think it's cute now!
For the inside lining (yes it's even lined!), I chose a small gingham check in a sunny yellow color. Gingham makes everything cute.
Because I had so much fun with the first zippy, I decided to make a second one! I chose various prints and created a pieced and quilted exterior.
For the inside, I chose a nice turquoise polka dot print. These pouches are about 4x6" in size, and since they have a bit of padding from the quilted layers, they're a nice size for tossing in a phone or ipod. Can't wait to make more!

Very cute. I'm gonna make one for my teenage daughter for her ipod. Better to have it in something with some padding than just thrown in the backpack.

Those are ever so cute, Anna! And didn't you do a wonderful job "installing" your first zippers?!

I am loving all your sewing projects! I need to get to the city and find some little zippers. Been a LONG time since I sewed a zipper in anything!

Girl, I can't believe you've never sewn a zipper before. I'm sure there was one in my first home ec project - eek! The little pouches are darling.

You did a great job, Anna...these look fab! I haven't sewn a zipper for years...I would need some practice! Your little pouches would be perfect for lots of things!

Whew! Much easier than the other project. ;) These are neat. Would be handy for things that you don't want to be seen when you open your purse.

Oh how inspirational you are! I, too, have never attempted a zipper, but now I guess I should:D

CUTE, CUTE, CUTE, you know my colors! I gave up on zippers, darts, cuffs and sleeves when I bought my first rotary cutter long, long ago. Beautiful job on the new projects. You did do a zipper and that's when we decided elastic waist skirts, etc were the way to go! Remember all those Hawaiian shirts? We don't do button holes anymore either. Love MOM

(But I HATE putting in zippers!)
These are your 1st zippers? You are AWESOME!!!
Have a terrific weekend, hugs...
