I took a Ranger products technique class on Saturday at the local scrap shop, as a little birthday gift to myself. It was fun, and nice to see some of my local friends.
One of the techniques we learned was to use white pigment ink as a resist with Distress Ink. I think it was my favorite technique of the day. (Thanks Wendy!)
Later that night, I created this card using the technique, and some of my new Whipper Snapper stamps. In class, we used Ranger's Snow Cap white as the white resist ink. Since I don't actually have that particular ink at home, I used StazOn's Opaque White. The StazOn ink resisted more than Ranger's white, but the look is different. Using the Ranger ink gives more of a "bleached" appearance, where this is more true white.
How To: Stamp your image in white pigment ink. Heat set. Using a foam applicator, apply Distress Ink colors of your choice.
I used white cardstock with Walnut ink, Vintage Photo ink, and Black Soot ink. The areas of the stamped image will resist the Distress Inks, leaving you with varying shades of white images.
I tried this technique with several white inks, and on a couple different papers with varying results.Try it out -- see how different papers and different inks work for you!
Oh, girl -- I SO wanted to go to that class but was out of town. Sounds like you had fun and this card is gorgeous!

Hi Anna~ I was wondering about the "ribbon" also is it paper? AND the foam applicator... you mean like a make up applicator or dauber AND last one (lol) do you use the ink pad or the alcohol inks that are distress inks???

Anna, I enjoy following your blog for both your whimsical card creations and your farm photography (I'm a city girl). So many of your cards have a little banner that looks like ribbon... are you stamping on ribbon or are those pieces of CS you have colored, stamped, and faux stitched, as in this card?
Thank you for all you share with your readers.

Thanks for posting this great technique! It is really spectacular. Can I ask one small question? Will using SU white craft ink give the same result or is that a different type of ink than the Stazon white? Thanks so much!
