This week's Illustration Friday topic is "Strings"... here's my take on the topic, Grand Ole Opry style!
"Get along little doggies...."
"Don't fence me in...."
"On the road again...."
...what's he singing to you?
EDITED TO ADD:
I just *had* had to make a more "fem" hen. I give you Patsy. Notice the sparkles from her rhinestone-embellished guitar! (Don't you think she kind of resembles Jewel?) *grin*

Maaa-maaaas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys! Don't let them pick gi-tars and drive them ol' trucks, make them be doctors and lawyers and such.
Gawd, now I'll have Willie in my head for a week!

Very sweet birds! He's singing "Whole Lotta Peckin' Goin' On" and she's definitely singing "Crazy" - or is that "Cause You Ain't Chicken Enough to Take My Rooster" LOL! Love 'em!

Don't ask me why but Strings reminded me of Festus and Patsy reminded me of Miss Kitty from "Gunsmoke". Makes me chomp at the bit for my husband's retirement so we can get to our East Texas ranch. Can't wait to get chickens, goats, cows, horses and even a pot bellied pig or two.

Both are fabulous!! You totally crack me up! Love all the bling :)
I could have sworn I heard them singing,
By the light of the moon,
Where is that raccoon,
Cuz, we're tired of being in lock down!!

These are such cute chickens. I agree with the above post. You need to make stamps out of them. I would name the male "Elvis".

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA . . . I absolutely LOVE Patsy! You are the absolute best!!!! You know, you really DO need to make a Minnie Pearl version. I can see that hat with the price tag now ---- HOWDY!

How cute! It reminds me of last night at the football game. During halftime the marching band did a whole show about birds, ending with the Chicken Dance. They started out with Free Bird, with the color guard "hatching" on the field. It was crazy.
I always LOVE your illustrations! This is no exception.
Have a great weekend!

How cute and funny!!! and I think they would both fit right in at the Opry! I can just hear them singing, too.....oh, all she needs is a Minnie Pearl Hat (or am I dating myself...)
; )

BWAHAHAHAHA, YOU ARE CRACKING ME UP AGAIN! :D
Your illustrations are fabulous, I like the male AND the female! They are too cute...and I've BEEN to the Grand Ole Opry, but it was over 25 years ago! I remember, because I was very pregnant with our 3rd son!!!
Have a great weekend...and greetings to all the chickens and turkens from NE!!! =)

A one man/chicken version of Free Bird?
...But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change...."
whoops...unless someone whips out their watercolors and instant sex change...

Anna, I think you've been sniffing too many fumes from the chicken poop ... coop, well you know what I mean ! ha
How much cuter can you draw a chicken ~ but when you're in the mood to create again, maybe you might add a bit of *bling* to her feathered fingers and toes (toe ring perhaps or an anklet?) and maybe a hair barette or patterened scraf to hold that flowing, silky hair-feathers out of her eyes! haa!
OHHHHH NOOOO, I must be smelling some of that poop too, as I'm starting to invision chickens like you do :))))
Can't wait 'til Monday for all of your releases on WS :)

Well now, how stinkin cute are they?!?
Awesome job as usual Anna!
Thanks for sharing.
I think she might be singing "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I'm beggin' of you please don't take my man...." I think she resembles Dolly just a tad :-)

Oh, this is great... It's kinda funny, for a second I thought the guitar looked like a drumstick! Wonderful!
Posted by: Edrian Thomidis | October 10, 2008 at 09:03 PM
Love me tender was my first thought, but I see someone else had the same twisted thought! So now my thoughts are "Walkin' After Midnight" or "Crazy".
Posted by: Sherry Cheever | October 10, 2008 at 07:34 PM
Love me Tender???? Ya know, Chicken Tender...maybe not....

Other than the chicken dance, I don't know any appropriate songs but this so reminds me of DH who leads our praise team at church each week on his guitar. Love it!

Yep, I think I saw him on "Hee Haw" singing "A Boy named Sue." I'm pretty sure I saw him.
Your work is delightful.

"Who broke the lock?" (traditional song)
Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the henhouse door
Well, I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the henhouse door
Now, my old hen's a good old hen
But she ain't laid a egg since I don't know when
Old hen cackle, cackling a lot
Next time she cackle, gonna cackle in the pot
Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the henhouse door
Well, I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the henhouse door
Now, there was an old rooster 'bout forty years old
He'd done lots of things that'd never been told
His toes curled up, he could not scratch
But the young hens say his eggs still hatch
***
Oh there are a ton of verses to this silly, sassy song but how many do you expect this old hen to remember, lol.
