Hello Friends! I have an extra 2013 On the Farm calendar on my desk, and would like to mail it to one lucky reader. It's the small
calendar size (5x7ish). If you'd like to be entered into the drawing for this blog candy,
leave me a note on this post. I'd love for you to share your year with us!
I'll randomly select one name from all entries on Saturday, January 19th, and comments will be closed at that time.
In the meantime, if you'd like to order up a copy for a friend, you will find the calendar in my Zazzle shop.
I plan on doing more blog candy posts this year -- I kind of got away from them for a while. But, since this is the 7th year of me keeping this blog, and 7 being my favorite number, I thought this year should be somewhat special. June marks my 7th year blog-versary, so stay tuned for lots of fun to come!

We've got a winner for the Pink, Pink, and More Pink! give-away from earlier in the week. According to Random.org, today's lucky number is #18.
Counting in order the comments were made on the post, comment #18 belongs to .... CAROL DEE!
Carol Dee had this to say:

I LoVE the adorble pink card. Fun as I only have sons and grandsons. Posted by: Carol Dee | February 01, 2012 at 08:17 AM

It's official ... happy July! This is the July image in the 2011 On the Farm calendar, and it reminds me of all the hard work that goes into a garden, and the labors of putting up harvest for enjoyment during the winter months.
I happened to find an extra 2011 On the Farm calendar on my desk's shelf, and would like to mail it to one lucky reader. It's the small calendar size (5x7ish). If you'd like to be entered into the drawing, leave me a note on this post. I'll select one name from all entries on Sunday, July 3rd.
I'm also starting to work on the 2012 calendar, so stay tuned for those details in the next few months!
UPDATE: Comments on this give-away are now closed. Thank you!

Thank you for all of your wonderful comments on the Tattler re-usable canning lid post. And extra thanks to those of you who even shared recipes! What a treat!
I posted the salsa article and Tattler give-away info on my GRIT magazine blog as well. To combine all of the comments received in both locations, I pasted everyone's name into a spreadsheet (removed a few duplicates that were posted), and went out to random.org to generate a number.
The random number between 1-113 that was selected was #89.
And I see on my commenter spreadsheet that #89 is Carol Dee!
Carol Dee, please get in touch with me and I will assist with communications with Tattler to get some lids sent out to you.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Supposed to be HOT here in the "Milford Vortex" today and tomorrow (90+, and not a drop of rain)... meanwhile, Mom and Dad are still experiencing some snow flurries and chilly temps up in northeastern Washington. Unbelievable how late in the year they're seeing snow! I'm sooo very envious of their weather this year. I love the cold, and rain. Alan saw a news article that stated that 179 counties (~80%) of Texas is currently in "serious drought" conditions. From what I'm seeing, that's no joke.
This weekend, I plan to do a bit of work in the garden -- most (99%) of the seeds I planted have yet to sprout, so I may be looking into getting some plants from a local garden center and planting them in place of the unsprouted seeds. In addition to planting, I'll be wrapping the last of the beds with deer netting to keep the free-range roosters, cats, and armadillos out of the garden beds. Wish me luck!
In other news, I've been busy working on samples for an upcoming cling set release for Whipper Snapper! The release date is scheduled for April 18, and I can't WAIT! I have so many ideas for the new sets, and have been having a blast creating projects!
Speaking of Whipper Snapper, I'd like to do a little give-away! I'd like to offer one lucky reader the option of choosing one Whipper Snapper individual stamp (not set) of your choice. Have you SEEN the cute images from the Spring release?! Ack! If you'd like to be included in the drawing, leave a comment here on this post. Sunday evening I'll choose one name from all comments. The lucky reader will be able to browse through the Whipper Snapper store, select their stamp of choice (and mount preference), and I'll get it ordered up! Sounds like fun to me! *grin*
What are your plans for the weekend!?

February is just around the corner, so how about a little "share the love" blog candy! I have this nice selection of Memory Box paper and stamps set aside for one luck-in-love blog reader!
Would you like it? Enter to win by leaving me a note on this post. In your note, be sure to tell me your birth date (you don't have to mention the year...) *grin*
I'll choose a lucky winner on Sunday, January 30th, and I'll get this package out to the winner in plenty of time for Valentine's Day!
Happy Weekend!

PS: This give-away is not sponsored. I chose to give them away, because I like you! Cheers!

Good morning! We're well underway now for 2011; hope it's been good for you so far! I flew back to Texas on Thursday, and Alan and I had a quiet weekend.
Friday night I futzed around in the kitchen doing some cleaning and organizing. Two weeks ago bought myself some cute Pyrex refridgerator dishes and wanted to make some room for them in the dish cupboard. They are from the Butterprint line of Pyrex from the late 50s, and feature a cute little chicken. I've been watching ebay listings for about a year, and finally just decided to buy myself some. I found a listing that wasn't overpriced, and the dishes were said to be in excellent condition with no chips. They arrived in perfect condition!
Fitting them in the cupboard started an entire re-fresh of all the cupboards. I used to have a squishy removable foam shelf liner in the dish cupboard. It was an ugly brown color, and needed to be washed. I got it all washed up and then decided to change it out for some pretty, flowery, heavy duty scrapbook paper. I like the paper lining much better - and it was an inexpensive way to freshen the cupboard! At midnight, I was washing the silverware tray. Pretty exciting stuff for a new years eve celebration! *grin*
I've drawn winners for the 2011 On the Farm calendar blog candy, and I've got good news for two lucky readers! I have decided to give away two calendars, instead of just one.
To celebrate the new year, I figured comment #11 should be celebrated! Comment #11 was by LacyQuilter who said "Happy new year, Anna. What a fun calendar. I've just been sitting reading. No parties."
I also chose one winner at random (#48 was drawn), and big congrats go to Boulderneigh Michelle who said "Since your "farm" photos are my favorite part of your blog, I'd love to win a calendar. We didn't really celebrate at all, old married folks that we are. :-)"
Get in touch with me ladies, and I'll get your calendars out to you right away! You have your choice of standard size (11" wide), or small (7" wide).
Today I'm cooking a turkey dinner for Alan's parents, nephew, and us. We haven't been able to celebrate Christmas together yet (various travel schedules), so a nice turkey dinner seemed like a good way to wrap up the weekend and spend time with the family.
Enjoy what's left of the weekend!

Earlier this week on my rustic snowman card post, I offered up a spare Melissa Frances Christmas Page Kit as a blog goody. I mentioned the offering in the body of the post, not calling it out with bold letters, flashing lights, or sirens. I rather liked doing it this way! Thanks to all of you who entered! You made my week! You all have delicious sounding favorite holiday drinks! YUMM! I'll be whipping up some holiday mixes this year, including homemade cocoa, friendship tea, and maybe one other yet to be decided on. I'll be sure to share, when the time comes.
As I mentioned I might, I decided to add a few additional goodies to the package. Included with the complete Christmas Page Kit is a sheet of Melissa Frances winter themed designer stickers, three Memory Box wood mounted stamps (a cute vintage santa, tree, and snowy hillside), a packet of Memory Box mini pearls, a packet of SEI Pearl Brads, and some vintage buttons from my stash.
Today's winner is Mel!
Mel says:
"My fave drink is a splash of Crown Royal in hot chocolate. HA! I always read your entire post. Your blog really starts my days out right. Hugs."
That sounds like a "put hair on your chest" kind of drink to me, Mel! Crown Royal!? You're more woman than me! I'll stick to Dad's Huckleberry Bounce! *grin!* Get in touch with me Mel, and I'll get your package of goodies out right away!
PSA: This giveaway was not sponsored by Melissa Frances, Memory Box, or SEI. I offered these items direct from my "stash"...

I'm feeling the need to snivvel about the weather. It was 6pm when I went to deliver eggs this evening, and the temperature was 86 degrees. Come ON, already!! So, I'm posting this snowman card, and dreaming of cold weather, snowflakes, and maybe even a few hot totties!
I first introduced you to this snowman HERE. He has quickly become one of my favorites for this year. *grin* He's painted with white craft stamp ink, and I watercolored a bit of brown around the edges of him to make him stand out a bit from the kraft background. The sentiment stamp I used on this card is from my Think Snow cling set, from Whipper Snapper.
The printed paper is from Melissa Frances -- it's included in a Christmas Page Kit that has papers, fibers, chipboard tags and letters, and even some stickers in cute holiday shapes. I happen to have an extra kit and would love to give it away to one of you! If you'd like a chance at the kit, leave me a note on this post and tell me your favorite holiday beverage. I'll probably toss a few extra goodies into the box too, just for fun! You might notice I'm kind of buring this giveaway in the post, so only those who actually take the time to read the post will know how to enter. I'm feelin' like a sneaky pete! *grin* I'll choose one name on Thursday morning at 9am Central.
Cheers to Wednesday! ...then Thursday, and FRIDAY!

What a fun week this has been! I think everyone should celebrate their birthday for a more than just one day. Thanks for all of the birthday wishes! So fun to read all of your notes!
Thank you to everyone who participated in this week's birthday celebration. One name has been selected from yesterday's blog candy drawing.
The winner of the Birthday Celebration: Day 5 package of goodies is Anette Eakins!! Anette's comment was #38 and since that's now my AGE (shhhh, don't tell anyone) I figured it would be appropriate to chose that as the winning number. *grin*
Anette says:
"Happy Birthday again! Hope you have a wonderful day and get lots of presents! And cake! :D My hands down favorite home made present to give is decorated wooden letters. I make them for new baby gifts- spelling out the baby's name. I paint the letters, then cover the front with patterned paper and decorate with handmade paper flowers (for the girls), stamped images, ribbons, buttons, glitter etc. I have a few posted on my blog if you want to take a peek. I've also made some spelling out the different seasons. So much fun and everyone loves them."
Get in touch with me Anette, and I'll get your goodie package out to you right away!
Have a great day!

Today is the final day of this week's birthday celebration blog candy posts. Happy Birthday to me! *grin* Thank you to everyone who has participated, and sent along birthday wishes! I hope you've enjoyed the celebration as much as I have.
Birthday Celebration: Day 5
Today's packet includes 36 sheets of 6x6 paper (Melissa Frances and Provo), a "29 Again" cling set (Whipper Snapper), two journaling clear stamps (Heather Bailey for Autumn Leaves), a Little Dancer clear set (Crafty Secrets), a set of butterfly cards (Memory Box), a set of large deckled edge nestabilities (Spellbinders), and a paper distresser (Tim Holtz for Tonic).
If you would like to be entered into the drawing for this set of goodies, please leave a comment on this post. I'd like to know, what's your favorite handmade item to give as a gift?
I'll be choosing one name from the comments on Friday, October 8th at 9:00AM! Central -- be sure you leave your name!
Birthday Celebration: Day 4
Yesterday, I asked you about your favorite crafting tool. It's fun to read through the posts -- lots of die cutting machines mentioned, adhesive, scoring boards, and even coloring mediums! My favorite tool is simple, and if you've been seeing my crafty projects long enough, you probably have a pretty good guess what it is ...
This little tool is my favorite crafting tool. It's a tracing wheel used by seamstresses. I just happen to use mine on paper and wood! When rolled across paper and soft woods, it leaves marvelous faux stitching lines which I adore!
I love this little tool so much that I have collected a handful of vintage varieties! My favorite of the vintage wheels is the one in the lower left. It leaves little dashes, rather than little round dots. And imagine my delight when I found the double-wheel'd tool! Oooooh, fun! The one at the top is more of a weapon than anything else - those points are SHARP!! But it's fun to have it in the collection.
One name has been selected from yesterday's blog candy drawing. The winner of the Birthday Celebration: Day 4 package of goodies is Kelly Schirmer!!
Kelly says:
"EEK, I love when you get your crafty on!! That owl card is amazing! I have to say my favorite tool is the sponge dauber, hee! Pair one with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, and I can almost fake coloring! I love the ones that you buy that have the little plastic handles...big, small, medium, I don't care, those things are great!"
Get in touch with me Kelly, and I'll get your package of goodies out right away!

Welcome to Wednesday! Today's blog candy package includes a Happy Haunting set from Whipper Snapper, and I thought I would share a card I made using the set. The owl is stamped on a light kraft colored paper and colored with markers. I used a circle punched out of scrap paper as a mask and inked around the circle mask to create the moon. When I removed the circle mask, I was left with a beautiful glowing moon! A few spots on the image are accented with a white gel pen to add a bit of moonlight glow to the owl.
Birthday Celebration: Day 4
Continuing with this week's birthday celebration, here's another set of blog candy goodies! Fun for me, fun for you! Today's packet includes 36 sheets of 6x6 paper (Melissa Frances and Provo), a Happy Haunting cling set (Whipper Snapper), a pumpkin themed clear set (Stampendous), a journaling block clear stamp (Fancy Pants), a "Believe" cling mount (Dee Gruenig, Posh Impressions), and a paper distresser (Making Memories).
If you would like to be entered into the drawing for this set of goodies, please leave a comment on this post. I'd like to know, what's your favorite crafting tool?
I'll be choosing one name from the comments on Thursday, October 7th at 9:00AM! Central -- be sure you leave your name!
Birthday Celebration: Day 3
One name has been selected from yesterday's blog candy drawing -- you have great organizational ideas, and I enjoyed reading them all! As one commenter mentioned, I too would love to see photos! If you haven't read through the comments, do! Great ideas to be found there! You will find some photos of my space on the posts in the "studio" category here on my blog. Like many of you, I LOVE drawers, open shelves, and jars!
The winner of the Birthday Celebration: Day 3 package of goodies is Rebecca Ednie!!
Rebecca says:
"I've learned the hard way that standardizing the boxes I use makes the best use of my space. I use photo boxes from Michaels and CD boxes from IKEA for most of my storage. Everything from 6x6 paper to bling to Stamps in CD cases all fit in one or the other and they are very reasonably priced. I also keep my boxes neutral; black, chocolate, kraft or white, so my decorative items really shine. My shelving is restaurant kitchen style metal shelving which makes stuff really easy to find. If anything falls behind something else, I can peek under the shelves and see through the wire to see where it went. I store my ribbon in glass jars wrapped with twist ties. It holds the ribbon securely without creasing it and doesn't take up any room like wooden clothes pins."
Get in touch with me Rebecca, and I'll get your goodies out to you right away!
Now, go read all of the ideas shared! Great stuff!

Janet says:
"My favorite flower is the African Violet. My grandmother(who is still around at 93!) used to raise tons of African Violets in her farm house. She would have table in front of windows just full of different types of these beautiful violets. She could get them to bloom like crazy. When I got married and got my first house, there was a garden window in the kitchen. The first plant I bought was an African Violet. I still have a couple today in my kitchen window sill. :D Thanks for a chance to win this wonderful prize package, too."

The comments on the Egg-citing Guessing Game are now closed. And what a lot of guessers there were! So many of you were so CLOSE, but only ONE of you was RIGHT!
There were 65 farm fresh eggs in the bowl, and every one of them was gathered on Monday of this week. Until today, that was the highest egg collection day of the week!
The one and only correct guess for Monday's bowl of eggs was submitted by Mary Campbell:
My guess is 65. I was going to take 57 but that was taken several times.Mary, get in touch with me and I will mail your prize right away!
Seems as though the ladies had a little competition today to see if they could beat their score, and sure enough, they did! They have smashed their previous record by 9 eggs!! I've collected 74 eggs so far today, and the day's not over yet... there's still a chance that I'll find one or two more eggs when I'm locking up the girls for the night.
Update on today's count: Sure enough, I found 2 more eggs while I was locking up the girls for the night. That brings today's total to a WHOPPING 76 eggs! I'm flabbergasted!
I went out to the hen house with the video camera today, and took some short videos. Enjoy!

I thought I would keep track of how many eggs we're getting daily. Monday was the highest egg count day of the week. The eggs in the above bowl are all of the eggs I gathered from the girls on Monday. The bowl is nearly over flowing, and it's the largest bowl I have in the house!
With the recent bumper crop, I thought it might be fun to have a little contest!
To Enter:
Post a comment on this entry with your guess as to how many eggs are in the bowl.
If more than one of you guess correctly, all names with the correct number will be entered into a drawing and one name will be selected. If no one guesses correctly, all names will be entered into the drawing, and one name will be chosen.
The Prize:
This cutie of a notepad I stitched up this evening, and a farm themed stay-sharp pencil. The notepad measures 4.5" x 3.5", just the perfect size for tossing into your handbag! The pencil measures just shy of 4".
One entry per person, please! Entry deadline: Thursday, 6pm Central.

Tonight I ran the random number generator to see who the lucky winner of the rug is... Congrats to #119, Barb Hardeman!
#119: Anna,
you're so sweet to think of others. I thought the Rooster Rug was so
darling and would have gone well at your house! The three year old boy
we are caring for (plus his 1 year old twin sisters),while the parents
serve in Afghanistan, would love to have a "town" to play his cars
with. He is a huge car buff! I follow your blog diligently, I wish you
would teach classes on your watercoloring technique, you're the best!
Thanks for the opportunity to enter to win this fabulous rug...
Barb Hardeman
Congrats Barb! Get in touch with me and I'll put you in touch with CSN Rugs so you can claim your prize!
Thank you to everyone who left a comment for the rug -- I'm glad this was a good choice for the give-away!

What's this? A rug?! Yes, a rug! This is a Fun Time Country Fun Kid's Road rug, and it could be yours for free!
Not too long ago, I was contacted by a gal from CSN Rugs who asked if I would like an area rug to use in my home in exchange for writing a review, OR I could offer to give a rug away to one lucky reader! Well... the decision was easy! Of course I chose to do the give-away! ...then the hard part came... choosing the rug!
I was VERY tempted to choose a rug featuring chickens. I think this rooster rug is particularly nice. That's the rug I would have chosen if I was keeping the rug.
But instead I thought a fun rural scene road rug would be more fun to give away! Not only would it be great for a kid's room, a family room, or outdoor covered patio, but it would be fun thing to have at Granny's house too! Or the babysitter's house! ...or the neighbor's house! Or if you don't have kids, what a great gift this would be to someone who does!
The rug is 4'3" x 6'6", made of 100% nylon with non-skid backing (though you might want to add an additional non-skid mat underneath).
I have always loved these kinds of activity rugs. I didn't have one when I was a kid... we made our own roads in the dirt, outside. But a rug like this would have been LOVED by me, my sister and brother!
Anyway, let's get to it!
If you would like to enter your name into the drawing for the free rug, leave a comment on this post. I would love to know who will get to enjoy this rug if you're the lucky winner!
Thursday, July 9th at 8:00pm Central, I will choose 1 LUCKY name from all comments. Be sure you leave your name and email address in your details so I can put you in touch with the nice folks at CSN Rugs.
Oh, and there's free shipping to US and Canada residents if you win!
PS: Comments must be left on this blog post, not on Facebook, via email, etc.

Here's another birthday themed card made with a Crafty Secrets vintage image. I inked up the edges a bit, and added some stitches just for fun. The paper I chose to use is some older double-sided paper from the Wild Asparagus line by My Mind's Eye. Some of my absolute favorite papers are by My Mind's Eye. This particular page has great texture, and I think lightly inking it makes it look like leather. Cool.
Yesterday, I offered up a chance to win a $30 gift certificate to Crafty Secrets!! We have a winner!! Congrats to Janet S, who wrote:
Cute card! I LOVE Crafty Secrets. I have the Kewpie stamp set. It is so cute! I would love to win the gift certificate so I can get more of their great stamps. Thanks for the chance to win.

The Crafty Secrets designers are having a challenge this month, and the theme is "birthday".
I made this sweet little 3.5x5 glittery birthday card using an image from the recently released Girlfriends image sheet. I have something else birthday themed to share as well BUT it's going to have to wait until tomorrow!
Why?
Because that's when I'm going to announce one winning name from all comments left on this birthday card post.
One lucky person will receive a $30 gift certificate from Crafty Secrets! A BIG thanks to Sandy at Crafty Secrets for this offer!
To enter the drawing, leave a comment on this post. I'll randomly choose 1 name from all comments at 7:30am Central, Tuesday June 9th.

Remember last week when I gave away some "surprise" blog candy, and said it would happen more often?! Well! It's happening again, TODAY!
SURPRISE!
I counted up all of the comments left on my blog since (and including) Monday of last week. At the time I performed the count, there had been 388 comments left. The more times you commented during the week, the more chances you had to win!
Then I picked a number between 1-388.... I think 72 is a good number (the year I was born!). I counted the comments backwards from today until I got to comment #72... and the lucky gal today is Lisa Hjulberg!!
Lisa, I'd like to send you a free BoPeep's Sheep unmounted stamp set from Whipper Snapper!
Drop me a note and I'll pop this set in the mail for you right away!

I've decided to do some "surprise" blog candy offerings for a while. You'll never know when, or what... but they'll be fun!
Today, with the new Whipper Snapper release, I've decided to draw one name/number from all comments left on the "new release" post and send the selected name a free unmounted "Good Times" Whipper Snapper set!
The number selected was 21 ... and that means, congratulations Erika M! You were commenter #21!
Drop me a note and I'll pop this set in the mail for you right away!
Good times!

I have a Crafty Secrets Halloween Vintage Image booklet, and a Crafty Secrets Christmas Vintage Image booklet to give!

I have to say, this is my absolute FAVORITE image from the recent High Hopes release. Crissy's Fishing Santa is just so CUTE!!!
For this card I stamped Santa on kraft colored paper in black Palette ink. I colored him with Prismacolor colored pencils and used paper stumps and Gamsol to blend the colors. (Click here for more information about this coloring technique.)
Once I finished coloring Santa, I used a white opaque pen to bring out the white of his hair, beard and 'stash. Once again, coloring inspiration for using colored pencils on kraft paper came from Paula Williamson. Thanks Paula! *grin*
And now for the BEST part of this card! It has been a while since my last blog candy offering. I thought this would be a good time to start offering blog candy goodies as a way to celebrate my upcoming birthday! Yahooo!! I have Fishing Santa, a small Santa hat, and a sentiment that reads "Best fishes for a Merry Christmas!" stamps to offer up as blog candy! All three of the stamps are new unmounted red rubber (no cling or cushion), from High Hopes Stamps.
If you would like to be entered into the drawing for the stamps, please leave a comment on this post. I'd like to know your favorite place to find inspiration for creating your own projects. Do you have a favorite site, or magazine, or catalog, or maybe something entirely different, that you go to for ideas, inspiration, or just for crafty fun? If you can, leave a link so we can check it out!
I'll be choosing one name from the comments on Friday, October 3rd at 9:00pm Central -- be sure you leave your name!
Happy Thursday!
(ooooh, it's one day closer to Friday!)

There is just something magical about Halloween -- especially VINTAGE Halloween!! I was SO EXCITED when I learned that Crafty Secrets was going to have a vintage set with all kinds of fun vintage Halloween images! I have been waiting and WAITING for a vintage Halloween set! And the set is just so FUN! Sandy did a fantastic job of choosing images.
I used this sweet little girl image from the set, and also pulled one of the flourishes from the Crafty Secrets Flourishes set for some subtle stamped fun behind the main image layer. I find myself reaching for the Crafty Secrets Flourishes set so often! The images are perfect for subtle stamping, and easily work on projects that are elegant, cute, and even western! You know I love that!
I stamped the girl in black StazOn ink and painted her with a water brush and reinkers. I added some faux stitches around the border, a little shell button, a scalloped edge, and popped the image panel up on foam adhesive for dimension.
The scalloped card base is STINKIN' fun, isn't it! I found a new XL Sizzix die that cuts a full sized card base in this shape, and it's even scored down the center! I'm surprised you couldn't hear my squeals of delight for hundreds of miles around when I ran that puppy through my big shot for the first time! ...or, maybe you could!
Ooooh, I'm so happy to be working on fall and Halloween designs now! That means autumn is just around the corner...and maybe, just MAYBE we'll have cooler temps soon, too! Wouldn't that be nice! Tomorrow promises to be 103 degrees. Phwew. Sounds like a good day to stay inside and STAMP!
I've got a little box of goodies to give away as Blog Candy! I've got a set (yup, all four) of the recently released Crafty Secrets Images & Journal Notes booklets to give away. There are four booklets, including Homemade, Childhood, Birds & Botanicals, and Summertime. I'll also include a handful of die cut Crafty Secrets papers cut in this fun scalloped shape. If you'd like to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post. I'll draw one winning name from all comments on Monday morning, early. I want to know your favorite fall treat. And be sure you leave your name! Good luck!!

Wow, what a day! A full days work, a trip to the farm supply store (for chick food!), the grocery store (for human food!), and I came home to babies... babies, babies, BABIES!
Brown Manetta has hatched 9 babies so far. One little white guy didn't make it, and it's looking iffy for another. It kind of looks like Brown Manetta may have had a visitor in her dog house while I was gone, which may have caused the casualty. But, the rest are doing remarkably well.
I ended up taking 6 of the babies from Brown Manetta tonight (3 white ones and 3 black ones). We tend to have a higher survival rate when the babies aren't raised out with mama and wild predators, stray cats, etc. So, until I can get them set up out in the barn in their chick digs, they're in our bathroom in a tub under a heat lamp enjoying a bit of faux sunshine.
Tomorrow, I'll probably take the other two chicks from her, depending on how they're doing, and if she's hatched any more babies. She's still sitting on 7 more eggs. I left two babies with her so she would still have little ones with her while she continues to sit on her nest. And, the peeping from the babies that have already hatched are kind of like alarm clocks for the babies still in their eggs. Phwew! This is a LOTTA babies for a mama to hatch at one time (even with 1 casualty!)
Tonight is also the night I drew the winner for the Crafty Secrets Blog Candy that I posted about on Tuesday. I asked about your favorite technique, and it was fun to hear all of the things you're doing lately! There are lots of you watercoloring, using Copic markers, sewing, using a brayer, and even distressing! It all sounds absolutely FUN!
I used the random number generator and selected one winner to receive the loot. Congrats to Beth B (tired mommy to a busy 4.5 yr old)! Beth, get in touch with me and I'll get your goodies out to you right away!
Thank you to everyone who played along! Now, I must tend to the critters...
PS: The card I posted was made using one of the images from the new Crafty Secrets booklet called Childhood. What a cutie, eh?
May 01, 2008 in Blog Candy!, Card Designs | Permalink | Comments (9)
I haven't had any blog candy recently, so it was perfect timing when Sandy at Crafty Secrets offered to send the Crafty Secrets designers a handful of the new Vintage Images & Journal Notes booklets to share. Sounds like a great blog candy offering to me!
Sandy recently released four different booklets of journal notes. I'm always impressed at the fun images Sandy finds to include in her vintage booklets, and these are no exception! There's one booklet specific to Summertime with great floral images and seasonal images like vacations, the fair, the beach, etc. Another booklet is dedicated to Childhood images with sweet kids, animals, and lots of images that remind me of books my Mom read to me when I was a kid. Another booklet is all about things Homemade. Wonderful fruits and veggies, sassy ladies in the kitchen, and clever expressions. The fourth book is all about Birds and Botanicals. It is a wonderful collection of images.
I was really excited to see the finished books! I find that using a combination of stamping and vintage images is a really great, and quick, way to put together projects.
On the Simple
Life card, I used the adorable image of the Kewpie kids playing in the
haystack. I was THRILLED to find this image in the Summertime Journal
Notes booklet! It's one of my favorites of all four booklets! And the
sentiment is so very fitting for my life on the farm.
Lately, I'm really drawn to adding real stitches to even the smallest of projects, like gift tags, cards, and altered journals (add the stitches to layers before you adhere them to your journal!). On the Simple Life card, I used a combination of straight and zig zag stitches for a real "homespun" look. The textures of the twine, texture and colors of the papers in combination with the sewing and feel-good image, make this a truly handmade from the heart card. The tree branch stamped in the background is one of the images from the recently released Bird Lovers Clear Art Stamp set.
Now...about the blog candy! If you would like to enter your name into the drawing for a set of the new vintage Images & Journal Notes booklets, leave a comment on this post. I would like to know what technique you're drawn to lately on your crafting projects. Also, be sure to leave your name on your post! I will choose 1 lucky name from all comments (randomly of course) on May 1st at 8pm Central. The person chosen will receive one of each of the four new booklets, courtesy of Crafty Secrets.
Also, be sure to check out the Crafty Secrets blog, Heartwarming Vintage, for more ideas using the new vintage booklets!
Happy Wednesday!

Alan and I went to an auction last year and I ended up buying several photo albums FULL of various vintage post cards, and little greetings like this one.
Tonight I was poking around in the image files on my computer, and I came across some of those vintage post cards and calling cards that I scanned last summer.
Tonight, I thought I'd post this one for YOU!
Click on the image to view the larger image size. Save the file to your computer. If you right-click on the large image, you will get a menu that will have some sort of a "save" option, like "Save Image As..." or "Save Target As..." -- choosing that option will allow you to save the image file to your computer.
Once you have the image saved, you can print the image (I like printing on white cardstock), cut it out and use it on a project! Or, if you're a digital scrapper, you can use the digital image file. Whatever you decide to do with it, have fun! I think it's a sweet little image to say I love you.
Enjoy!

I'm having such a great time using the stamps that I received this week. Gift Frog is one of my new Whipper Snapper images that I *needed* to have. I stamped him in black Stazon, and painted him with a water brush and Stampin' Up reinkers.
I used white acrylic paint on the tip of one of my smallest embossing tools to add the small white dots to the frog. It worked well, and was much easier to clean up than a paint brush.
I'm really liking River Rock colored Stampin' Up cardstock this week. (It's the funny pale green colored paper on this card.) I found that it matches this plaid paper by Chatterbox perfectly! Wouldn't you know it, I only have 1 sheet of the plaid paper, so I'll be on another search through my paper stash for a good match to River Rock before too long.
ANYWAY.... I bet what you are really wanting to know is who the LUCKY winner is of the three Whipper Snapper Blog Candy stamps I posted earlier this week.
WOWEE!! Out of 430 posts congrats to Anette Eakins!! It's YOUR LUCKY DAY! Get in touch with me, and I'll get your Shy Bunny, Hen's Easter Egg, and Love Line stamps out to you right away!
BIG thanks to everyone who participated! YOU are the reason offering Blog Candy is so FUN for me!
Happy Friday!

I think my favorite flower in the Posies for You set is this chubby daisy. ...it's OK to have a favorite, right?! I mean, I have favorite chickens, favorite snacks, why not have a favorite Posie!? First I stamped the bucket on shimmery paper, then masked the bucket with a post-it note before I stamped the flower. I colored them both with Copic markers. The double-sided paper is by My Mind's Eye. The backside of the dots is the pretty sunny yellow paper at the top of the card. What luck ... they coordinate! *grin*
So... about the Blog Candy! Giving away Whipper Snapper stamps is a BLAST! I wanna do it again! But this time, I'm not just giving away one stamp... but THREE!
One lucky, LUCKY person will receive Shy Bunny, Hen's Easter Egg, and Love Line. To enter, just leave a comment on this post. Don't forget to leave your name!
You've got until Midnight, January 31st Central time to make your comment. I will randomly choose one person as the winner Friday morning!
Hope to hear from you!!

Thanks to everyone who entered the Love Line stamp blog candy drawing!
I asked you to tell me something that you love, and while family and pets are certainly top of the list, stamping and CHOCOLATE are right up there with things you (and I) love!
It's CHILLY here today so while I was out feeding the chickens and Lollie, I *LOVED* my gloves! They kept my fingers toasty warm! (Ok, so they're really Alan's gloves, but I can call them mine when he's not looking!)
Two names were randomly chosen from all comments. A big CONGRATS to:
Patty W. who says: I love feeding the birds... we have so many birds that visit our feeder..it is absolutely beautiful ! Especially during the winter when there is snow on the ground and all the cardinals stand out so brilliantly...oh my gosh! We have so many varieties, it's just awesome! Thanks for the chance...love all the cards you make!
and
Sharon in NE, who says: I love getting "air". I love the feel in my stomach when I am sledding and hit a bump and know that I am not on the ground. I love it especially when I'm at a water park and am on a ride going down fast, head first, in which I pull up on the "sled" just at the right moment as I hit the bump and I am no longer connected to the slide. The first time is always the best as it's the scariest, but I go again and again trying to get that first scared feeling. Nevertheless, getting air always gives me a rush. (um...I am 47, but its my only vice.)
Patty and Sharon (you WILD woman, you!), get in touch with me and I'll get your stamp out to you right away!
Thanks again, and enjoy the rest of your day!

I'm on a roll with making cards using my Whipper Snapper images! I made this card using Love Line, one of the January release images.
The image is stamped in black Stazon and painted with a water brush and Stampin' Up reinkers. I added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the letters using a Quickie Glue pen.
I'm also on a roll with blog candy, so I thought I'd stick with it for at least a few more days. It's fun for me, and hopefully fun for you! It's also handy that I have new cards made using the images, so it's a great way for me to showcase the stamps, and offer goodies at the same time.
This time, it's two Love Line stamps that I'm offering. Two stamps, two winners! If you'd like to be entered into the drawing for one of the two stamps, leave a comment on this thread. Tell me one thing you LOVE. And be sure to leave your name! I'll randomly choose two winners TUESDAY, January 22nd at 2:00pm Central time. You've got 24 hours to comment!
Enjoy your day!

I posted this card before when it was a sneak peek prior to the release of the images. I thought I'd post it again since it features Hen's Easter Egg.
I can't believe how many comments there were for the blog candy stamps! You all are so fun to play along! I love reading your comments.
Thankfully, the random number generator does the choosing so I'm not forced to pick. It would be much too difficult to choose if it were left up to me!
A big congrats to these two gals:
Nancy P. (happistamper) and Sophia Landry!
Get in touch with me Nancy and Sophia, and I'll get your stamp and SURPRISE goodies out to you right away!
I have more goodies coming SOON!
